Latent Ambition

So, have you ever felt like just packing a backpack, a compass and a map (or not) finding a trailhead (or something resembling a trail) and just going? If not, don't worry about it, you're "normal", I guess. If you have, then I'm confident you'll understand my affinity for "Man Vs. Wild".

I'm not exactly a huge tv-watcher, in fact I don't watch any other shows much at all really. But I do undersand what it's like to see nothing on your horizon that wasn't there before some dude "discovered" it. It's strangely exhilarating in a way that is difficult to verbalize accurately enough for someone who hasn't felt it themself. At the risk of sounding too "hippy-ish", it's liberating, enlightening, exciting, relaxing all rolled into one. All attempts at descriptive verbosity aside, it's much better to experience that freedom in first-person. But then, I don't exactly have someone willing to air-drop me in the middle of nowhere, someone else to follow me around with a camera and I definitely don't have anyone willing to pay me to do it all! So, until I find some people who fit that description I'll be content to watch someone else do all that and keep living the dream as a weekend warrior.

I remember the first time I watched the show, wondering who this crazy Brit was. Seriously, who was this guy who always seems to have some sort of random british saying for any situation? I suppose that probably comes with being British. We Americans seem to have gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to wittiness. I'm sure we'll make up for it somehow. We always do (or so we believe). Anyways, that's a tangent. Although it's a funny one. Seriously, the next episode you watch, just wait for him to say something randomly british. it will come.

I also remember wishing that was me. One of the real reasons I watch the show is, simply stated, it looks fun and adventurous. It's one of those things I just might try someday (don't quote me on that). Perhaps more accurately, it's something similar to what I really enjoy doing and may attempt some form of someday. Don't worry, I am aware of the obvious hypocrisy in watching a show like this from the comfort of my own sweats and sofa all the while wishing I was there too. Maybe I wouldn't want to be there if I actually was. For time being, however, I'm okay with that dichotomy, so you'll have to be too.

Anyways, I encourage you to give the show a try. See if you like it. If not, that's okay. But if you do.....well, you'll understand.
